We like wine. We taste usually weekly on Friday nights at North Loop before we try a new restaurant. So when we hear of a new wine bar opening we usually try to visit it after it's opening. Ambi has been open since September downtown Anoka.
They have high ceilings which usually means quiet... unless it's girls night out and a few ladies need a volume to be noticed. Which sadly can happen at any place.
Considering it was a wine bar we expected a dozen Red wines and there was 6. But a good selection of reds with: a Cab, a Merlot, a Shiraz and a Noir, Chianti, and a Cannonau. E had her normal Cab and I had a Merlot. Both were good with good pours.
Ambi is a small Wine bar that seats about 45 people. Because of their size they don't offer reservations but we walked in at 7:30 on a Friday night and found two places at the bar and after ordering a table became available.
We ordered a Mexican Corn Dip with Naan bread. Also their Rectangular Spin pizza with: tomato, Prosciutto, Gruyère and spinach sauce. The Mexican Corn dip brought memories of a meal we had at a Five Star restaurant in Paso Robles wine region two years ago. It was THAT tasty & memorable. And the pizza with six pieces was great and perfect size for a couple.
One doesn't always know when you plan on going to a wine bar in Anoka. But Ambi wine bar as it is today would not be out of place if it were moved to Edina or downtown Wayzata. They have done a great job. And with a staff of only 3. Our bill with two wines and 2 very good courses was $58 a good price for a nice new wine bar. We'll be back.
